About PlayWord

PlayWord is a free collection of daily word and logic puzzles you play right in your browser. New puzzles arrive every day, each solvable in a few minutes, with no sign-up and no download.

Why we built PlayWord

Most popular daily word games exist only in English and do not handle the quirks of other languages. We started PlayWord to offer a high-quality daily brain workout built around Hungarian vocabulary first, with an English edition alongside it.

Our goal is a short daily ritual: a few minutes of play with your morning coffee that keeps your vocabulary, logic and focus in shape.

How the puzzles are made

  • Word games use our own word lists, which we keep extending and correcting, filtering out rare, offensive or ambiguous words.
  • Every daily puzzle goes through automatic checks (spelling, solvability, a single clear answer) and an editorial review before release.
  • Sudoku and Nonogram grids have exactly one solution that can be reached by logic; a solver verifies this.
  • Chess puzzles come from the Lichess open puzzle database (CC0), taken from real games.
  • We regularly review player feedback (ratings and error reports) and use it to fix both old and new puzzles.

Our games

  • Word Groups: Word Groups is a daily word association puzzle. The board shows 16 words that can be sorted into four groups of four. Each group shares a hidden link: a topic, a phrase, a compound word or a bit of wordplay.
  • PlayWord Blur: PlayWord Blur is a daily picture-guessing word game. Each day you get a few heavily blurred photos and have to name what they show. The fewer sharpening steps you need, the more points you score.
  • Word Code: Word Code (Szókód) is a daily word-guessing game with three levels. Each day you crack three hidden words, from a shorter, easier word to a longer, harder one.
  • Hangman: Hangman is a daily take on the classic letter-guessing game. Each day there is a new hidden word or phrase to find, with a category as a hint.
  • Whisperer: Whisperer is a clue-based word guessing game: there is one secret word and up to five clues that lead to it. The first clue is very general, each next one more specific.
  • Mini Crossword: Mini Crossword is a tiny daily crossword: three or four words cross each other in a grid of at most 7×7, with one clue each. It takes a minute or two, perfect for a short break.
  • Sudoku: Sudoku is one of the best-known logic puzzles in the world. Fill the 9×9 grid with the digits 1–9 so that no digit repeats in any row, column or 3×3 box.
  • Nonogram: Nonogram (also called Picross or Griddlers) is a picture logic puzzle. Use the numbers next to each row and column to fill in cells, and a pixel picture appears at the end.
  • Checkmate: Checkmate is a daily chess puzzle: each day you get three positions (easy, medium and hard), and in each one you must deliver checkmate in a single move.
  • Retro SMS: Retro SMS is a nostalgic speed game: type the day's message as fast as you can on an old-school phone keypad.
